My Kinda Clean, Kinda Chaotic Morning “Routine”

Let’s be real: everyone’s obsessed with the clean girl aesthetic these days. Dewy skin, matching sets, 5am workouts, protein smoothies lined up like a skincare shelf.

But waking up at 5am? You’re joking—most (all) days. Getting out of bed at all should earn me a millennial participation trophy. Most days I’d rather rot, binge-watch Bravo, and hang with my cat in yesterday’s sweats.

Alas, the world rarely allows for full-time humans being sloths—so here we are; somewhere between chaos and chlorophyll drops.

This space isn’t about being perfect. It’s about trying. Whether I’m undoing last night’s damage or genuinely starting fresh, here’s how I kind of do the whole clean girl thing in the morning:

  • A glass of water, because dehydration is peak chaos and usually sends my hypochondria into a spiral. I don’t know the science, but drinking from a cute water bottle definitely helps.
  • A walk or a fake walk, aka power-lapping around my dining room table and mentally thanking my landlord for putting my neighbor’s bedroom two floors below so they can’t hear me stomping for steps.
  • Nettle tea, because while I fully support Western medicine, there’s something about traditional Chinese medicine that just hits. Nettle’s been great for my immune system and sanity.
  • Collagen in my coffee—because turning 30 was a blast, but I feel it. For context: women start losing about 1% of collagen per year in their mid-20s, and by the time we hit 50, we’ve lost around 30%. So yes, I’m adding it. Religiously. 
  • And finally, a self-high-five in the mirror. Shoutout to Mel Robbins for making this a thing—it sounds silly, but it’s weirdly effective (still working on mastering all her morning routine must dos, but one thing at a time. And if you haven’t checked her out, you need to listen to the Mel Robbins podcast, she seems like one of us).

Let’s be extremely honest: sometimes I’m grabbing a protein shake… sometimes it’s a leftover espresso martini. Who’s to say. That’s why it’s not called The Perfect Calm Life™.

We’re not all the way there, but we’re doing our best to get a little cleaner, a little calmer, and a whole lot more unapologetic.
